Burgoyne served in the Mediterranean in the early part of the War, saw service in Egypt and served for most of the Peninsular Were before being appointed Commanding Engineer to the disastrous attack on New Orleans in 1814-15.
I will be speaking at the Waterloo Association Conference on 1 September 2018 in Leeds. The topic will be the Napoleonic service of John Burgoyne RE, who went on to become the first Field Marshal from the Royal Engineers.
