It was a great pleasure to attend this event in the wonderful surroundings of the Cavalry and Guards Club in London. The night before, 20 October (Lines of Torres Vedras day), a dinner was held in the Club. The special guest was the Portuguese Ambassador, His Excellency, Manuel Lobo Antunes
The conference on 21 October was attended by 55 People including the Mayor of Torres Vedras, Carlos Manuel Antunes Bernardes. It was a great honour to be able to speak alongside a number of eminent historians; Professor Mendo Henriques, Professor Charles Esdaile and Colonel (Ret'd) Nick Lipscombe. The talks were excellent and the contributions from the attendees added greatly to the success of the day, Spent the day at the Royal Engineers HQ at Chatham with officers from 36 Engineer Regiment. They are about to embark on a Peninsular War Battlefield tour and I was providing the historical information. Thanks to Colonel Hawkins and team.
