My next project is nearing completion. I have transcribed and edited the letters of a young engineer officer called Lancelot Machell. Many of the letters talk about his education at the Royal Military Academy and about the formation of the School of Military Engineering (SME) which was set up to train the rank & file artificers for the Royal Engineers.
Machell was sent out to the Peninsula in 1812 with one of the first companies that had been through the SME and he served at the first siege of San Sebastian where he was sadly killed in the assault.
The book should be available on Amazon in the next few weeks.
